A Baby Monitor, sometimes called a baby monitor watch, is an electronic device used to hear sounds created by an infant through their caregiver’s line of communication. An electronic baby monitor is usually set up with a transmitter (usually carried within the baby’s travel gear), equipped with a miniature microphone, placed close to the infant. The transmitter emits a frequency that the receiver of the ear piece can pick up. Receivers are generally small wireless devices and are often hand-held, either attached to a belt pouch or worn on a wristwatch.

In-ear baby monitors are preferred over wireless systems because they provide more accurate tracking. Wireless systems are also expensive, because additional components are needed to receive, and send, the signals from the transmitter.
