In 1997 Sugar Ray, a funk metal band out of Orange County, California teamed up with Jamaican deejay Super Cat and came up with “Fly”, a song unlike anything else they’d produced in their decade of recording and touring. It was the surprise hit of the summer.
(How much of a surprise? “Fly” never reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US because the record label never released it as a single.)
