As a psychology major I have spent a significant amount of time learning about Gestalt psychology. It was very fascinating to learn about the ways in which Gestalt principles apply to advertising. The two famous Adidas logos are good representations of two of these principles. The logo with the leaf-like shapes demonstrates the Gestalt law of closure wherein the human eye closes the gaps in the image effortlessly to perceive a whole. And the logo with the quadrilaterals demonstrates the law of proximity where objects that are close to one another will naturally be perceived as part of the same greater whole.
I am especially excited for the Gestalt section of this course as it will be interesting to really dive into the artistic side of Gestalt principles of psychology!
