Taman Negara National Park – Malaysia

I just about to return from Taman Negara National Park in Malaysia, one of the most ancient rainforests worldwide dating back 130 million years. The park covers 4343 square kilometres, with only a fraction of this open to the public. The remaining untouched rainforest is home to slow loris, tigers, elephants, a multitude of bugs and the indigenous Batek tribe.

For the serious athlete, there are multi-day hikes through the jungle or to the peak of Mt. Tahan (2187m). These require months of training and should only be attempted by the very fittest. For less athletic individuals there are activities on offer such as cave exploration, riding the rapids, hiking in the rainforest, and night safaris. Visitors can also visit a tribal village for demonstrations on how to make fire and kill using a blowpipe. Useful stuff if you ever find yourself lost in the jungle.
