Health experts are always writing about the benefits of the Keto diet. Also known as the ketogenic diet, this new approach to weight loss involves consuming a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets.
It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. Research shows that the keto diet can lower high blood pressure and reduce insulin sensitivity.
Although there is some merit to this approach to weight loss, it isn’t without flaws. Having been on a variation of the Keto diet for two years, I can say from personal experience that it helped me to lose weight…in the beginning.
