Gilligan’s Island was an American situation comedy broadcast by CBS from 1964 to 1967. The series featured three seasons: 36 episodes in the first season, 32 in the second and 30 in the third with a total of 98 episodes. The first season was filmed entirely in black and white, although these episodes were later colored for re-transmission. The second and third seasons of the show and three TV movie sequels were filmed in color.

Gilligan’s Island enjoyed solid ratings during its original broadcast, and then grew in popularity during decades of syndication, especially in the 1970s and 1980s. Today, the main character of Gilligan is widely recognized as an American cultural icon and the show is considered a cult series by many fans, which led to several television sequels.
