A Poem for My Father

S.L. Vince's avatarA Beautiful Tragedy

I lost my father when I was 17 years old. Nov. 21 2003. This poem was written 5 years later on the anniversary of his death. This year on the 10 year I will write another for him. I truly hope you enjoy this poem bc it is very close to my heart.

I remember you,
Though you said I’d forget.
5 years to the day
Since the moment you set,
Your coffee on the table,
And walked down the hall.
A joke on your lips;
Your goodbye to all.
Now stuck in my head
Is an unspoken word.
And you are not here
To see what I’ve learned.
This child you’ve left
Is just one of three.
From where you now sit,
I wish you could see.
Your oldest a mother,
To a beautiful boy.
Eyes of bright wonder,
A life full of joy.
Your son all grown up
