One morning this April we woke early and suitcase in hand headed to Shinagawa station to board a crowded Shinkansen train bound for Kyoto. I felt a buzz of anticipatory energy coursing through my fingertips. We were off to explore one of Japan’s treasures untouched by war. One of the few places where one can experience original Edo architecture and a place where intricately carved stones and the rituals surrounding them date back thousands of years.
