Canada is a diverse country encompassing mountains and valleys, plains and forests, oceans and rivers. East to west, north to south; we have it all.
Our youngest province, Newfoundland, joined confederation at 11:59 p.m. March 31, 1949, and Joey Smallwood, one of the most vocal proponents for joining confederation, was Newfoundland’s first premier as a Canadian province.
Until this year, I had not visited Newfoundland. Over the years I heard all the usual stories of it being ‘the rock’ and access to the province by boat or by plane, were both a little outside my comfort zone. I can honestly say, a trip to ‘the rock’ was not on my bucket list.
But this year, 2018, my husband decided that we would visit Newfoundland. I tried to keep my fears hidden and determined to enjoy the experience. I was in for a stunning surprise!
