Google officially announced that the company is shutting down its URL shortening service, goo.gl. The company added that new and anonymous users won’t be able to create links through the goo.gl console as of April 13th but existing and registered users can make use of it for another year, after which the services will be discontinued completely. “goo.gl” is a URL shortening service controlled by Google that was introduced in December 2009 and initially used for Google Toolbar and Feedburner before going public in September 2010. It is now one of the widely used and popular tools for publishers, marketing, and branding agencies.
