Ice Stupas : Artificial Glaciers of Ladakh

As it is said: “Necessity is the mother of all inventions”, it truly implies in the case of Project “IceStupa“.

Water scarcity in the valley of Ladakh during the summer enlightened the mind of Sonam Wangchuk.

This is the most wonderful and amusing project that I have come across in the recent times. Everyone in the valley owe themselves to Sonam Wangchuk.

This IceStupas freeze and hold the water that keeps flowing and wasting away down the streams and into the rivers throughout the winter. It was so well constructed that this Stupa (tower) melts during the spring time when the crops require (locations of the stupas are set up in the directions and locations that least it melts).

The support from teams like Ladakh scouts, Jain Irrigation, Indian Air Force are to be appreciated well in making this project futuristic.
