Did you spot the 2001 reference in Godzilla?

To be fair Godzilla was rammed full of references from all over the place, there was Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and my personal favourite (obviously) 2001: A Space Odyssey. 

During the Halo Jump scene when a group of soldiers parachute from a plane they are falling through the sky in a rather poetic and entrancing way. The music at this point? Ligeti’s Requium which was also used for the main music in the one of the trailers. This piece of music plays in 2001 when Bowman is travelling through the star gate. This is quite a nice parallel actually because Bowman is travelling through space over strange, alien landscapes to ultimately end up somewhere completely unknown to him. The soldiers are doing the same thing, as they descend through thick smoke and cloud they don’t know what kind of world awaits them.
